At 450 mts. above sea level, the horizon widens onto the skyline of Montepulciano to the south, Mount Amiata to the west, and the hill of Montefollonico to the north. Some 400 meters from the bituminised road, the site remains secluded while accessible only via a private driveway, ensuring that you'll be holidaying in quiet and undisturbed Tuscan countryside. ***Farmhouse MULINELLO. Sleeps six, over 972 square feet. Restored in 1990, it is the result of successive works on the original tower dating back to 17th century. Tucked into the hillside, with perfect views across to Montepulciano, the house is set over two levels. On the ground floor, a lounge with fireplace forms the centre of the house. There are three bedrooms (one double, two twins and both with orthopaedic frames and mattresses) and one bathroom with bath tub. One twin bedroom has en-suite WC. Wooden stairs lead to the upper floor, where there is a large kitchen/dining room with a fireplace for barbecues. Access to the kitchen is also through a terrace equipped with iron chairs and table. Another terrace, shaded by a pair of old oaks, looks over the valley. Throughout, the house has period furniture from the owner's family. The kitchen leads into a two-room lounge with a Tuscan fireplace at one end, furnished with antique pieces and many sofas and armchairs. There is a small washroom on the ground floor. Stone steps take you to the first floor, which has a master bedroom with en-suite bathroom (tub) and a splendid view over the Montepulciano valley; two twin bedrooms share a bathroom with shower. Wrought iron beds, old rustic furniture, small wooden toilet mirrors, doors and fitted wardrobes have been chosen according to the Tuscan country tradition. It is up a half-mile gravel track near San Giovanni d'Asso in Monterongriffoli, a semi-inhabited medieval hamlet, hidden behind the church, with no signposts and only a small carved stone plaque to identify it. The place gives real meaning to the over-used term retreat as applied to Tuscan rural hideaways. Ankhura is a village house converted into a simple public space with just four bedrooms. It's all fresh and clean, and while certainly comfortable enough, it isn't luxurious. Guests share a large fridge for drinks on the first floor, and in warm weather can eat out on the terrace which overlooks a charming little wooded valley, and leads the eye to the classic Tuscan landscape beyond. This is Italy's best truffle country, and Ankhura's unique selling point is the activities it offers guests: not just cooking classes and wine tours, but truffle hunts with a local tartufaio and his dog. This is a guesthouse, albeit a charming variation on the usual theme. If you eat in, it'll be with the other guests at a single table. | The "Antico Borgo S. It was for this that in 1200ad the Borgo was a resting lodge for many merchants and pilgrims who came from the North to travel to Rome. Situated in the heart of the Borgo is the Church of San Lorenzo. This ancient roman church dates back to the 10th century and holds a beautiful 15th century fresco of Pier Francesco Fiorentino. The church is historically noted for the first meeting between San Francesco and San Lucchese which took place in the year 1210ad. An exceptional discovery was made here at Antico Borgo San Lorenzo in 1963, when digging the foundations to construct a new building. Exquisite silver goblets fashioned by the Gotis, were unearthed (5th century). This treasure represents one of the more precious antique findings ever found from the era of Gotis. These "Galognano" treasures are jealously kept in the museum of History in Colle val d'Elsa and can be viewed when visiting the museum. | This magnificent 17th century farm house sits totally undisturbed amidst beautiful woodlands on the crest of the Montagnola Senese hills. A protected rural landscape covered with ilex oak, under which grow truffles as well as porcini mushrooms, olives groves from which we collect the fruits and press our very own, distinctive olive oil, and wild flower meadows where deer graze in peace. An unpaved drive of approx 3.5 km lined by cypress and oak trees leads to the house which is enclosed at the front by large walled and paved courtyard, in which is the original pizza and bread oven and a covered dining and lounge area are overlooked by an upper loggia. The house has been recently restored with great care and attention to the smallest detail, retaining many of the original features common to Tuscan architecture both externally & internally. | We are a Tuscan old farm half way between Siena and Florence, few miles drive from Monteriggioni, San Gimignano, Volterra and the Chianti. We are located on the top of a hill, in a very quiet spot that dominates a green valley. Here you can enjoy the country with its beautiful landscapes, where you can still find pheasants, hares, foxes and partridges and you can see fireflies in the dark or hear crickets and cicadae singing. We grow grapes, olive-trees, corn and sunflowers, so that the 300 hectares of the estate end up by forming a natural and coloured painting. You can taste the Extra-Virgin Olive Oil we produce in our own oil-mill and a very good “Chianti Colli Senesi” red wine. The apartments, for 2/4/6 people, have been renewed and still keep old local structures such as wood rafters, bricks arches and outside stones walls. They all have their own entrance, a living room with a full equipped cooking area, one or more bedrooms, TV, an outside area with table and chairs and a place to park the car near the apartment. Guests can choose between two different kinds of accommodations. We have apartments in the small village, near the reception and the swimming pool where people can easily socialize, but we also have apartments in a farm-house along the estate for those who prefer a quiet and silent stay. |
