'Come Back to Sorrento', 'The Isle of Capri", "Funiculì Funiculà'. In less than an hour you can reach most of them - Sorrento, Capri, Positano, Amalfi, Pompeii. Vico Equense - one of the ancient Roman "in" resorts - perhaps covers most territory on the Sorrentine Peninsula as it takes in the whole of Monte Faito and all the villages between them. The town of Vico Equense itself has everything you could ask, including beaches, bars and the station with trains every 20 minutes to Sorrento, Pompeii and Naples. Every village on the mountain has its own atmosphere. One of the largest, Moiano, the closest to Al Castagno and just 10 minutes' drive away offers plenty of local shops, bars and pizzerias. During the summer, just a few minutes' walk from the property, there is a public, open-air Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts and picnic areas. And if you're lucky enough to come visit us at Easter, a whole host of traditions including unique processions in all the towns on the peninsula, even spectacular reproductions of the 'Passion of Christ', will still only give you just a taste of what this area is all about. |
